Merry Christmas 2014

December 2014

Dear Friends of the Camp:

It is the time again to celebrate the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. I love the way John phrases it: “The Word (Jesus) became flesh and made His dwelling among us.  We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)  No wonder the angels announced “glory to God in the highest.”

During the summer John Wry and Robert Weaver took turns leading the staff and providing direction for the camp. Again this year we had a strong showing at both the Explorers camp (ages 10 – 12) and the Navigator's camp (our youngest campers).  This gives us an optimistic outlook for summer attendance in the future. The Mother's camp was a highlight of the summer for the women who attended. The program was led by Wanda Nazworth with devotionals brought each morning by Margaret Haire.  Both were used of the Lord to challenge the women to grow in their Christian life.  There were plenty of ice cold buckets of water poured on the staff in order to raise money for a mission project to help people in Bolivia.  There were plenty of hikes and games and dips in the pool and all the while each camper was challenged to put their faith in Jesus Christ and grow in Him.  We continue to be the ones who benefit from God’s act of grace to us through His Son, Jesus Christ.

We appreciate and depend upon your ongoing support. Your prayers and your donations make a difference to this part of God's work. The Lord has continued to provide for us throughout this year. The committee made the faith decision to hire a full staff for the summer including some students who were brought on part time.  We are running about $3,000 in the red at this point and face the time of the year where there is lower revenue and fairly high heating bills.  We also want to do some refurbishment work to one of the camper cabins so the children can have a more comfortable place to stay.  The swimming pool will need some maintenance and painting in the spring so the children can still enjoy this valuable part of the camp experience.  The driveway is also in need of improvements so we can maintain access to the camp property.  These are all extra costs that we will need help in accomplishing but are vital improvements for the ongoing work at the camp.  Thank you again for your ongoing interest in and support of the camp.

Because of The Christ of Christmas

T-Shirt design contest

Would you like to design our t-shirt for this summer?  Are you between the ages of 5 and 17?  Do you like to draw or design?  Would you like to win a week at camp?  Then this may be a contest just for you.

We are looking for a winning design for our camp t-shirt to use this summer and we want you to submit your design to us.  If your design is selected, you will receive a free week at camp, sponsored by Bayview Credit Union.  We are using a "light" theme this year, so get busy and send in your best work to be included on the Edith Lank Memorial Christian Camp t-shirt.  You can drop off your design at the office at the Campobello Island Consolidated School office or send it by e-mail to info@edithlankcamp.com.  We look forward to receiving your designs.  The contest closes on June 5th.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Until then I remain,

Swimming Anyone?

We are excited to announce a joint project between the Campobello Recreation Council and the camp.  We all want everyone in our community to know how to swim and what better time to learn than in the summer.  This week is intended to help non-swimmers learn how to swim and to help people who already know how to swim to become stronger swimmers.  We would like to provide sessions for all age levels including an option for a Moms and Tots program for the youngest.  The sessions will be approximately 3 hours long each day, with time for water safety training and a snack.  Please get in touch with us at the camp to let us know you are interested.  We are glad to offer this free of charge due to the assistance of the Recreation Council.

I remain,
