December 2013
Dear Friends
It is the time again to celebrate the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. It was God's incredible grace that sent Jesus from the splendor of heaven to a squalid feed trough on earth. He did it so we could be saved. The plan of salvation was clear in those words spoken by the angel: "you are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21)
The Lord blessed us with another wonderful year at Edith Lank Memorial Christian Camp. In the off season, many have taken advantage of the dining hall as an excellent meeting place. We have had the opportunity to meet for church social events and host community groups. The summer included some challenges but it brought with it many incredible blessings from the Lord. There was a strong showing at Explorers camp (ages 10 – 12) and we had a good group for Navigator's camp (our youngest campers) which gives us an optimistic outlook for summer attendance in the future. The Mother's camp was a highlight of the summer for those who attended. The program led by Nelly Wry and the camp staff was well received. One of my personal favorite stories from the summer was the night that the camp committee was meeting in the dining hall and all the while the Lord was changing lives in the girl’s cabin. What a boost it was for our faith to hear that while we were meeting, four girls came to faith in Christ as they asked their counselor how to get their names written down in "the book of life." What an act of God's grace.
We appreciate and depend upon your ongoing support. Your prayers and your donations make a difference to this part of God's work. The Lord has been providing for us little by little throughout this year. The committee made the faith decision to hire a full staff for the summer including some younger students who were brought on part time. It is a real blessing to have many students on the staff who have been developed within the camp ministry first as campers, then as volunteers and in the end as staff members. This was accomplished this year without some of the grant funding we have received in recent years. We are slightly in the red financially at this point and would ask you to consider a gift to help us finish the year on a solid financial footing. Thank you again for your ongoing interest in and support of the camp.
